Malibongwe

1. Iitshomi Zam*
The meaning of the song is my friends. The song is dialogue between flute, alto and tenor saxophones. The conversation between these instruments clarifies the important role each friend plays to another one and that they really miss each other. In this song also friendship goes beyond to a level of brotherhood.

2. Emakhaya*
The song says kumnandi emakhaya meaning it is good to be at home and indeed there is no place like home. This one provokes rhythmic / complex dances that one gets in the African societies.

3. Sinelizwi
We have the Word. The word is very important in our lives. Where there is the acknowledgement of the word, there is life in its fullness.

4.Ndize*
Ndize is an old popular hide and seek game played by a younger generation in the communities. The lyrics in the song are a reminder to the game. Ndize means can I come and hoyi means no. The song is antiphonal, a typical African song.

5. Akuyazi*
Akuyazi means you do not know…. In the song akuyazi is an expression by a lady to the guy that you do not know what you are looking for. “Ndikunikil`isandla” meaning I have given you my hand, “ndikunikil`ingalo” meaning I have given you my arm, “ndikunik`amabele” meaning my breasts, and still you do not know what you looking for. Ladies flirting with guys usually sing this.

6. Dyakalashe
Dyakalashe is a fox. The song says “dyakalashe bhomba noba ndimncinci” meaning hey!!! Fox,”age is nothing but just a number”, so why are you afraid to say it.

7. Uthemba*
Themba is a boy’s name. This boy likes to play big and yet he is a coward. He is injured and would not let everyone see that he is hurting. The chorus says “yiza naye simbone” meaning bring him so that we can see what has happened to him.

8. Ntombemhlophe
Ntombemhlophe means a lady with light completion. “Ehlal`ezibhasini” I saw her at the bus rank. “Ndithe ndithez`iinkuni kanti ziingcondo” meaning When I saw her legs I got a surprise!!!! Wow!!!

9.Imvumelwano
Imvumelwano is an agreement. The singers tell us that in the olden days, boys used to propose to their loved ones by the river. There is a moral statement around this song. For anyone who wanted to engage him or herself in any serious relationship, they had to be serious about it and respect the young ladies.

10. Akasemhle
The meaning of the song is appreciation about her beauty
The leader in the song sings “akasemhle” and the followers respond by saying “yingwe” meaning a tiger. This is a metaphor. This song is usually sung in weddings as an appreciation for the bride as well as groom.

11. Bayavuya
This is also a wedding song meaning the in-laws are happy that the family has been blessed by a daughter in law.

12. Zenimphathe kakuhle
This is a well wishing song sung by the bride’s family as they prepare to leave her to be united with the groom’s family. The relationship that started during those early hide and seek games is now getting to its destiny. The chorus continues to say, “zanga hamb`elala, zanga dlakazeli” meaning she must always have a shelter and not have ragged clothes.

13. Iinkumbulo
This is a romantic song reminding the couples about their first date.
